DYNAMOS new signing Tafadzwa Rusike says the Glamour Boys are the team of his childhood dreams and is thrilled that he will finally play for the club he support as a boy. The Zimbabwe international forward inked a one-year deal and is now looking forward to his debut Champions League dance this season.
He started training with the team on Monday and could not hide his joy yesterday as he revealed the secret behind his choice to play for Dynamos upon his return from South Africa.
Rusike, who made his professional debut with CAPS United in 2008, said he could not go back to his former team as his first love was the Glamour Boys.
“Since I was young I used to support Dynamos. At CAPS United I was working there but I used to support Dynamos and I always wanted to play for the team. It’s more of coming back home,” Rusike told The Herald.
“For me it’s not new. I used to play for CAPS United but for now I need to make a move. I am going forward (with my career) and I am not looking back. So I need to focus on Dynamos now that I am a Dynamos player.”
There was a scare yesterday as Rusike limped off the pitch prematurely with a muscle cramp. Rusike was released by Ajax Cape Town last June and returned home to train with Dynamos.
His representatives also negotiated for Ronald Chitiyo, who penned a one-year contract.
Assistant coach Tichaona Diya said they will help Rusike work on his fitness.
Dynamos vice-chairman David Mandigora, who has agreed to help the team in their preparations in the absence of head coach Callisto Pasuwa, also took to the field as he joined assistant coach Philmon Kutyakureva, Diya and juniors coach Hebert Maruwa in conducting the session.
Most of the Dynamos senior players led by skipper Murape Murape were present yesterday with Ocean Mushure, Patrick Khumbula and Ugandan Boban Zirintusa the only notable absentees.
Rusike said he believes DeMbare have a strong squad capable of retaining the championship and doing well in the Champions League.
“It’s a strong squad and I have confidence we can go farther. We can do something if we fight hard we can go far. We need to push each other in training and even in the game situation.
“Some of the guys have played Champions League so it’s not new. They know what to do. Even for me I don’t think it will be something new because I have played for the national team and I also played in South Africa, so I am confident.
“The guys here are happy for me. I think I will contribute something positive so that we move forward together. I started training yesterday (Monday) and so far so good. I am happy,” said Rusike. His new teammate Chitiyo said he believes he made a big breakthrough in his career by joining the Harare giants.
“I am so happy to join the biggest club in Zimbabwe. I played for Dynamos Under-13 and the manager (Richard Chihoro) was my coach then.
“So it’s always good to come back home. I am looking forward to winning Cups and proceeding to the mini-league of the Champions League.
“This is my first time in the Champions League but I think we are ready as a team because the team has experience already,” said Chitiyo.
