Dynamos opt for Champions League

The Harare-based champions won both tickets to the Caf Champion’s League and the Confederations Cup when they picked up the Castle Lager Premier League and the Mbada Diamond Cup titles.
In an interview from Harare yesterday Dynamos chairman Keni Mubaiwa, confirmed that they had opted for the Champions League.
“We were having a meeting now to discuss the competition that we will take part in. I can confirm that we have agreed as a club to take part in the Champions League because we are after all the Champions,” he said.

Mubaiwa said at the meeting they were also going to discuss a number of issues concerning the club and the preparations for the Champions league competitions.
“We are also going to discuss the dates for the start of our preparations for the Champions League and also some of the players that we might be interested in. We have already started scouting for players but at the moment I cannot say who they are,” he said.

Mubaiwa said they want to close the season and award their players and then start the preparation for the Caf Champions League.
Earlier Mubaiwa had indicated that they were  going to participate in the Champions League only  if they got a sponsor. He said then in the event  of them winning the Mbada Diamonds Cup and then                         fail to get a sponsor, they would participate in the Confederations Cup.

The Castle PSL chief executive officer, Kenny Ndebele said yesterday that it was not clear how the sponsors of Mbada Cup were going to handle the issue.
“Dynamos have to make a decision. When I last   talked to them they were in a meeting and they were discussing that issue. At the moment we have to put the  issue of them taking part in both the Caf Champions League and Confederations Cup on hold until they make the decision. After their decision that is when we can say what will happen,” he said.

Dynamos got $70 000 cash for winning the Mbada trophy and were meant to receive a further $150 000 had they opted to represent Zimbabwe in the Confederation Cup.
Rodrick Mutuma scored the winning goal for the league giants when they beat Motor Action.
Motor Action will probably take up the task of representing the country at the Confederations Cup.

Motor Action represented Zimbabwe in the Champions League last year after winning the league title. The club faced a lot of financial problems coupled with the fact that the league did not have a sponsor then.
This year, although not very clear whether they will be taking part, Motor action might be weighing their options seeing they could receive the $150 000 to represent the country in the Confederations Cup.

Teams have to give their consent to participate by 30 November and the deadline for registration of players is 15 December.
A club can register up to 30 players.

FC Platinum have already indicated that they will take part in the Champions League.
Last year Zimbabwe was represented by Dynamos and Motor Action in the Caf Champions League.

Hwange will also be representing the country in the Confederations Cup after finishing third in the Premier Soccer League season.
