Dynamos shell out massive sum to secure Botswana venue

iHarare has learnt how much Dynamos Football Club will pay to host Zambian club ZESCO United at National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round fixture.

The move was necessitated by the unavailability of approved stadiums in Zimbabwe. The first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round is scheduled for Sunday, August 18, with a kick-off time of 3 pm CAT. According to a memo from the Botswana National Sports Commission, the Glamour Boys will be charged P35,700, which is close to US$2,800, to use the Botswana National Stadium for this crucial encounter. This financial burden will be covered by Dynamos’ main sponsor, Sakunda Holdings.

Interim coach Lloyd Chigowe will lead Dynamos in this fixture, with support from assistant coach Joel Lupahla and new goalkeeper coach Warren Mapanga. The team has already departed for Botswana via Johannesburg and will spend a week training at the facilities of Botswana’s Tafic Football Club. After the match, Dynamos will travel to Ndola, Zambia, for the return leg against ZESCO United.
