WALTER Taranhike has been appointed to lead the interim committee of the Dynamos FC Supporters Association Bulawayo Chapter following Panas Madziya’s elevation to head their national association.
The interim committee, which has vice-chairman James Banda, Agrippah Gwaringa (secretary), Imbayago Mangoma (organising secretary), extensions officer Jabulani Hozheri and treasurer Martin Gwatirera is expected to set up a membership register for people who will vote in the upcoming elections.
Speaking at the hand-over-take-over meeting yesterday, Madziya challenged Taranhike, who was his deputy, to embark on a massive membership drive.
“I’m leaving for the national executive happy that our Bulawayo Chapter is in good hands. The interim leadership has to make sure that they hold elections soon after compiling a register of our members in Bulawayo. Only those who would have affiliated with the chapter will be allowed to vote and it’s a challenge that I’m leaving to this committee to ensure that they recruit as many people as possible so that we continue being a vibrant entity within Dynamos,” said Madziya.
Dynamos supporters’ membership fee has been set at $2 with the money collected used to cater for the team’s refreshments whenever they come to Bulawayo for league matches or cup competitions.
Taranhike said they would also continue preaching the anti-violence gospel.
“Football should be a unifying sport and as supporters we’re worried that clubs continue losing a significant amount of money due to fines they pay following unruly behaviour by fans. I think what we have to do is encourage fans who fill the stands at the stadium to join the supporters’ chapters where they will be educated about fan behaviour,” said Taranhike.
Meanwhile, a meeting for Dynamos’ supporters is scheduled for Greys Inn tomorrow evening where travelling arrangements for the Harare derby against Caps United on Sunday will be availed.
