DYNAMOS are gradually reclaiming their status as a giant on the international stage following their invitation to participate in this edition of Tanzania’s Simba Day on August 8, 2026.
The invite comes after many years since Dynamos was last “summoned” to participate in exhibition matches outside Zimbabwe.
The day celebrates SC Simba’s 90th anniversary after the club was founded in 1936 as “The Queens” before being renamed to Sunderland, and then SC Simba in 1971.
DeMbare are pencilled to play against SC Simba in the exhibition match at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.
“On behalf of Simba Sports Club, KISHAKI Sports Management and Solutions, the Club’s appointed official event management partner, has the honour of extending this formal invitation to
Dynamos FC to participate in Simba Day 2026,” reads the invite.
“The event is to be held on Saturday, 8 August 2026, at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania.
“Simba Day stands as the foremost annual occasion in the club’s calendar, a celebration that unites supporters, football administrators, commercial partners and members of the press in shared values and heritage that define us.”
Dynamos where selection comes in full recognition of the club’s exceptional standing in Zimbabwean football.
The Harare giants are the most successful club in the domestic game, having participated in Africa’s premier club competition, including its historical precursor, the African Cup of Champions Clubs, and the modern CAF Champions League 17 times.
Key milestones from their continental campaigns include 1998 when they reached the finals to finish as runners-up to ASEC Mimosas.
In 2008, they reached the semi-finals, while in 1981, 1984, 1987 and 1995 the Glamour Boys were knocked out of the prestigious African Safari competition in the quarter-finals.
It is against this background that the Tanzanian side opine that Dynamos’ participation in the commemorations will lend the occasion both competitive stature and the prestige it deserves.
Further, with the club apparently on track to reclaim their former glory locally and beyond, SC Simba note that supporters in Dar es Salaam will be treated to a spectacular fiesta.
“The centrepiece of the occasion is an international friendly with Dynamos, an institution that symbolises commitment to football at the highest standards of the game on the African continent,” said SC Simba.
“This year’s edition carries distinction; the club marks its 90th Anniversary, commemorating nine decades of football excellence, institutional growth and enduring contribution to the sport.
“It is a milestone that invites reflection on a legacy built across generations and one we are determined to honour with a celebration befitting its magnitude.
“We are confident that Dynamos’ participation will give the occasion both competitive stature and the prestige it deserves…a fixture worthy of this historic commemoration.”
The invitation was extended in the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding already executed between the two organisations under reference SSC/KISHAKI/MOU/2026/001.
“It reflects the mutual respect and shared vision that form the foundation of this partnership…and share a moment that will endure in the annals of African football,” added the club.
For Dynamos, who are also preparing for their return to the CAF Confederations Cup, the fixture serves as a preparatory game which will give them exposure.
“We are keen to participate in the exhibition match; it amplifies our image as a club and also gives us a platform to weigh our side ahead of the Confederations Cup,” club chair Vincent Chawonza
said.
“After bringing in new signings, we need to ensure that our team is in the best shape for the African Safari, so this type of competition is key in our preparations.
“The coach will advise us on the way forward.”
