Dzivarasekwa water reservoir almost 90 percent complete

Refurbishment of the Dzivarasekwa water reservoir is almost 90 percent complete, with the second tank expected to alleviate water challenges in Kuwadzana Phase 3, Dzivarasekwa 1 to 4, Tynwald South, Dzivarasekwa Extension, Nehanda, Glaudina and other areas under Dzivarasekwa district.

Ward 45 Councillor Jubilation Shoko said in Dzivarasekwa off Kirkman Road, there are two tanks.

“The other one has not been in use since its construction in the early 1990s. So recently, we got one of our partners who has been building houses in Dzivarasekwa Extension to do the necessary connections.

“They initially wanted to construct a new tank. Then, after some engagements, we realised that we already had a disused reservoir and they agreed to do the necessary connections.

“The engineers have been on the ground for quite some time. Last week I spoke to Engineer Kunyadini, the acting director, who was telling me that the work is around 90 percent complete.”

Cllr Shoko said when the tank comes into operation, some areas that have not been receiving water will start having it.

“In Kuwadzana Phase 3, we have had some areas where they did not receive water because of the capacity of the existing tank and its pumping capacity, so it couldn’t reach all areas and some parts of Dzivarasekwa as well. It was the same situation,” he said.

“So they were saying we will then have another tank supplying Dzivarasekwa 1 to 4, Kuwadzana Phase 3 and Tynwald South.

“Then the new tank will connect directly to DZ Extension, Nehanda, Glaudina. Effectively, it means all water problems in Dzivarasekwa will be solved.”
