Dzivaresekwa documentary on the cards

THE Dzivaresekwa community will launch a five-episode documentary next month to showcase its culture, history, and development opportunities, with the aim of finding collective solutions to societal challenges such as drug abuse and environmental degradation.

The documentary is the brainchild of Tawanda Chainga, who recognises the need to raise awareness of what is taking place in the community and come up with a collective solution, given the lack of development in the area.

The documentary will showcase other business opportunities within the community and the need for investors to contribute.

Chainga also wants to tackle the rampant drug abuse prevalent in the area, with stories from drug abusers, those who quit and those who want to quit.

Environmental challenges such as land barons and sewage management will also be explored.

“I came up with this documentary after realising that there is a need to raise awareness on what is taking place in the community and come up with a collective solution.

“There is a lack of development in Dzivaresekwa which needs to be addressed.

“We cannot deny the development that was done in the past, but there is more that needs to be done. The documentary will showcase other business opportunities that are within the community and the need for investors to come so that we benefit financially as a community,” he said.

“The issue of drugs and substance abuse will be explored in the documentary. We need to establish what exactly is leading to this drug menace in the community.

“Therefore, we included views of the local police to provide an insight on the abuse in the community.

“The documentary will also showcase school heads and teachers within the community talking about the impact of drugs in school and suggest solutions to this problem,” said Tawanda.
