Dzumbunu asked to stay on as Zim Saints boss

Club members numbering about 40 attended the team’s annual general meeting on Sunday at the clubhouse in Queens Park East. They resolved that Dzumbunu who literally sponsored the club last year should stay at the helm and help organise elections for a new executive to be held in two weeks time.
According to sources that attended the meeting, members were in unison that they had lost faith in secretary Caleb Sengu and organising secretary Jabulani Chinyangarara but wanted Dzumbunu to stay.
However, secretary Sengu is singing a different tune.
“We will be in charge until the end of the year. Dzumbunu is no longer leaving the club he will stay on until elections are held at the end of the year.
“Our meeting went on smoothly, it was the usual business of any annual general meeting,” said Sengu.
He said they were looking to a successful season in Division One and had co-opted new members to the executive to facilitate its effectiveness.
“We have co-opted Ishmael Kaguru, Gibson Homela, Tafeni and Innocent Kurwa. Following Sunday’s meeting we now have to meet and assign these members positions,” said Sengu.
Interim chairman Dzumbunu said he would step down once a substantive executive was in place.
“I will be in charge for the two weeks and hopefully then the baton will be passed on to somebody else after the elections. I told members that due to business commitments I cannot continue as chairman. I have projects in Kariba, Zambia, Botswana and Harare that need my attention,” said Dzumbunu.
He said no amount of persuasion would see him change his mind.
Dzumbunu is of the view that Saints has unfinished business in the Premiership as one of the oldest soccer brands in the country.
“I believe Saints has unfinished business in the Premiership and hopefully when I become available I will return to help the brand go or stay where it belongs which is in the Premiership,” he said.
Factionalism within the Saints family has been the biggest undoing of the club in the last two decades.
Meanwhile, Saints has already started preparations for the season under Edmore Sibanda and Jonathan Chikaponya.
