THE Kwekwe Agricultural Show and National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) Expo got underway yesterday, with organisers expecting increased attendance and participation as the annual event continues to position the mining city as a hub for agricultural, industrial and investment opportunities.
The three-day event, being held at the Kwekwe Mining Museum under the theme, “Driving Agricultural and Industrial Transformation for Inclusive and Sustainable Local Economic Development towards Vision 2030,” brings together farmers, businesses, Government departments, educational institutions and development partners to showcase innovations and forge partnerships that support local economic growth.
The expo provides a platform for exhibitors to engage prospective customers, investors and collaborators while highlighting opportunities in agriculture, mining, manufacturing and value addition in line with the country’s industrialisation agenda.
Kwekwe District Development Coordinator, Mr Fortune Mupungu, said the event had attracted more exhibitors than last year, reflecting growing confidence in the district’s development potential.
“The Kwekwe District Agricultural Show and NDS2 Expo is underway in the mining town of Kwekwe,” he said.
“As of yesterday, we had 106 exhibitors, including farmers, local authorities, tertiary institutions, small and medium enterprises, schools, Government ministries and agencies, as well as private companies.”
Mr Mupungu said the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, is expected to officially open the show today.
“Our Minister of State will attend the Kwekwe District Agricultural Show and the NDS2 Exhibition 2026. The show provides a platform for farmers, agribusinesses and innovators to showcase productivity and value addition in line with NDS2,” he said.
“It promotes food security, rural industrialisation and market linkages. The exhibition also highlights mining-agriculture synergies and opportunities for youth and women in agribusiness, driving economic growth in Kwekwe and across Midlands Province.”
The expo complements the Vision 2030 agenda by promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and value addition while strengthening linkages between agriculture, mining and industry.
Organisers expressed optimism that the event will continue attracting more exhibitors, investors and visitors over the remaining two days, further cementing its role as one of the Midlands Province’s key economic and investment platforms.
