POPULARLY known as “The DNA Man,” Global DNA Zimbabwe principal consultant, Tinashe Mugabe, this week took time to unwind in the picturesque Eastern Highlands, taking a breather from his ever-busy schedule.
Mugabe gained popularity through his highly acclaimed television programme: “The Closure DNA Show,” which addresses DNA issues as well as raising awareness on how DNA testing can positively impact and improve communities.
The DNA specialist and television host explored various scenic sites in Manicaland Province which is home to an avalanche of sites and tourism facilities as well as a galaxy of adrenaline-rush activities.
He said he was excited to feel the panoramic and striking environs of the province, describing it as refreshing.
He, however, revealed that besides exploring the scenic areas, he managed to attend to 10 families that had requested his DNA paternity testing services in Penhalonga, Zimunya and Dangamvura as well as surrounding areas in the city centre.
He has mastered the way of calmly handling sensitive and emotional paternity testing issues as well as the aftermath of the results by offering post-counselling sessions for involved parties.
“No doubt Manicaland is one of the greatest tourist destinations in the world. We came here and saw places. We visited a number of scenic places that have striking and stimulating views. It was a great and refreshing experience,” he said.
Mugabe said 10 local families also invited him to do paternity tests and the processes went on very well.
“However, besides tourism, we managed to attend to 10 families that called us to do paternity tests in areas such as Penhalonga, Zimunya and Dangamvura among others. All went well and in terms of security, we are alert all the times.
“After the announcement of the results, we always make sure that we do post-counselling sessions that ensure that the involved parties rediscover themselves and move on with life,” added Mugabe.
Mugabe revealed that in some paternity cases that he has handled, some fathers realised that they were raising someone’s else children more than 27 or 50 years later, while other men would demand compensation from women who would have lied to them about the paternity of the children.
Global DNA Zimbabwe is a registered and certified DNA testing company that offers paternity DNA testing and many others including forensic DNA testing.
