Eaton,Robertson win

ALEXANDRA Sports Club bowls veterans Mike Eaton and Clive Robertson were crowned this year’s winners of the Inter-district Bowling Pairs tournament at the weekend.

The pair accumulated 14 points on their home green at Alexandra and they were the only unbeaten side in the men’s section.

On their way to victory, Eaton and Robertson defeated Dereck Robertson and Manie Silva 23-13.

Both Eaton and Robertson played exceptional bowls when they beat Wayne Williams’ pair 27-22 to win the final of the tournament.

The Inter-district tournament had 16 men and women who also included some of the nation’s top bowlers. The event was played in a round-robin format.

Besides finishing at the bottom, two young bowlers Aaron Chilundo and Austin Kupara, impressed with the way they were walking over the moon.

Chilundo and Kupara are some of the country’s determined upcoming bowlers who play against big players as well as the bowls specialists.

The pair are both 17-year-olds and they were the youngest in the tournament.

Eaton described Chilundo and Kupara as the future top bowlers of Zimbabwe.

“They have the potential and the talent,” said Eaton.

In the women’s category, Jean Bykes and Ursula Gripper beat Debbie Robertson and Jean Nicholson in an entertaining close match.

Both teams registered 23-23 score on the board therefore a tie break was played to get the eventual winner.

“The inter-district was well organised and we are so happy we won it. The season has started on a good note and we are just looking forward to the Bob Mitchell tournament which starts this weekend,” said Eaton.
