Three robbers who pounced at an EcoCash shop in Chitungwiza and got away with more than US$2 000 were last week jailed for one and half years.
Eunice Mazuru (37), Prince Mapuvire (33) both of Glen View 1 were jointly charged with Itai Mazonde (47) of Kuwadzana Phase 4 in Harare. The trio pleaded guilty to robbery charges before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo, who slapped them each with two and half-year jail terms. Six months were suspended for the next five years while six more were set aside on condition they each pay US$210 to Alice Munyaradzi (29).
Prosecutor Mr Norman Koropi told the court that on August 3 this year at around 11am, Munyaradzi of Manyame Park in Chitungwiza was conducting her duties at an EcoCash shop, Hurudza in St Mary’s.
Mapuvire approached her on the pretext that he wanted to do a transaction.
The court heard that Mapuvire then peeped into the shop before disappearing into the crowd. Mazuru also did the same before she went away immediately after, a customer went to the shop and transacted.
When Munyaradzi was handing him the money, Mazuru came and snatched US$2 200 and ran towards a getaway vehicle.
