team sponsors for the 2011 season.
The sponsorship, which is specifically for the Twenty20 team, will cover the series that begins today and the back-to-back assignments against New Zealand at home in October and away in February next year.
Econet Wireless Holdings, general manager Isaiah Nyangari, yesterday said the company was coming in a big way as the Twenty20 team sponsor and official communications partner but could not divulge the monetary value of the deal.
“We are inspired to change the game of cricket and make sure that the game continues to grow. Our sponsorship is really about the development of the game. We invested about US$150 000 in the T20
team last season and this year we are putting in a lot of money, which I cannot divulge.
“As the leading telecommunications company in the country we are happy to be associated with the fastest growing sport in Zimbabwe.
“It’s two big brands coming together and this is a wonderful opportunity for both brands. We have been involved with the sport for some time.
“So what we are witnessing today is just the continuation of what we started in 1998 when we supported the men’s national team.
“What really inspires us is that we are not only supporting the cricket team but also providing telecommunications devices and equipment as the official communications’ partner.
“We will offer world class connectivity in all corners of the country as information surrounding the sport, both international and domestic is communicated to the local people and international cricket
community,” said Nyangari. The Zimbabwe cricket team will wear uniforms with the sponsors’ logo at the front during Twenty20 matches for the remainder of the season.
Nyangari also said the company would also consider spreading their sponsorship to the domestic arena.
