Other institutions which received donations are Makoni Old People’s Home in Rusape, Dzikwa Trust in Harare, Highfields Old People’s Home in Harare, Alpha Cottages in Eastview Masvingo, Amaveni Old People’s Home in the Midlands, Ponesai Vanhu Children’s Home in Shamva and Mutemwa Leprosy Centre in Mutoko.
Speaking during the handover of groceries at Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home yesterday, Econet chief operating officer, Mr Kezito Makuni said the grocery hampers were part of the company’s philanthropic initiatives meant to cheer up the vulnerable groups during the festive season.

“We understand that for vulnerable people, Christmas can be an extremely stressful time of the year, which is why we decided to donate these groceries to cheer them up,” he said.

Mr Makuni said they believe that a company’s success cannot be measured on financial performance alone but also its ability to positively transform its communities.

The home’s administrator Ms Sukoluhle Hove said the donation will go a long way in alleviating some of the challenges the home is facing.
“Our home relies mainly on donations and we are therefore grateful for the gesture shown by Econet. The elderly because of such donations feel they are not forgotten,” she said.
