TWO Econet Wireless employees appeared in court on charges of defrauding the telecoms giant of $12 million.

Simbarashe Nyakudanga, (29) and Tafadzwa Gede, (41) were each ordered to deposit $100 000 bail when they appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

The duo will be back in court on January 26 next year, pending finalisation of the matter.

Allegations are that the two, who were employed as Voice Product Officers, connived to create a portal, using the company’s system, without the knowledge of their supervisors.

The court was told that the two fraudulently credited their Econet numbers with airtime.

They also credited their friends and relatives’ numbers with airtime, which amounted to $12 464 000.

Zebedia Bofu appeared for the State.
