Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, the country’s leading telecommunications and technology company, has been recognized as one of the country’s largest contributors to public revenue and honoured for its commitment to regulatory compliance, accountable business practices and country’s broader socio-economic development agenda.
Econet received three major awards at the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA)’s Taxpayer Appreciation Day this week on Wednesday, held alongside celebrations marking the revenue authority’s 25th anniversary.
Other top tax paying firms rewarded are Delta Beverages, Zimplats, TM Pick n Pay, CBZ Holdings and Hippo Valley Estates.
The annual event recognises individuals and organisations that make significant contributions to Zimbabwe’s fiscus while demonstrating high standards of tax compliance and responsible corporate citizenship.
Econet was recognised as one of Zimbabwe’s Highest Overall Contributors for Domestic Taxes and also received the top award in its sector; the Domestic Taxes Award for the Information and Communication Sector. In addition company also received the Special Excise Duty Award for Airtime.
A leading telecommunications and technology player in Zimbabwe, Econet plays an important role in the economy by providing critical digital connectivity, financial technology and supporting activities across a wide range of sectors.
The company has continued to invest in network infrastructure, digital technologies and innovative products and services designed to improve connectivity and expand access to digital solutions. Taxes collected from compliant businesses help finance essential public services and national development programmes, making private-sector contributions to the fiscus an important part of Zimbabwe’s growth and development.

The Zimra awards also reflect the collective contribution of Econet’s employees, customers, business partners and other stakeholders, whose continued support has enabled the company to grow its operations and make a positive impact in the communities it serves.
