transforming many lives in Zimbabwe.
The Econet brand was recognised for its remarkable success in Africa where it has become a multi-national brand, spanning over ten countries with more than 15 million customers. The giant mobile phone service provider generates more than US$5 billion in annual revenues. The Marketers Association of Zimbabwe on Thursday evening conferred Econet with the big prize at a function where

Deputy Prime Arthur Mutambara was the guest of honour. In the top 10 Super brand, Coca-cola came second with Mazowe Orange crush claiming the third position.
On fourth position was the Castle Lager brand, while Spar chain supermarkets was placed fifth position.
Geisha sat on sixth position.

OMO detergent brand came seventh, while Red Seal eighth; Cascade ninth and Toyota tenth.
In the sectoral awards, The Herald won the print media award, with NewsDay coming second and The Sunday Mail third.
MAZ, in a bid to ensure and uphold marketing professionalism introduced the Super brand initiative in 2009.

The initiative was fully embraced in 2010, where a total of 86 brands participated in the inaugural Super brand launch.
This year, the number increased to 143 brands, demonstrating the value and uniqueness of the initiative to Zimbabwean companies.
At the beginning of each year, companies submit their brands, and a research is carried out from consumers to determine the popularity of a brand nationwide.

One of the characteristics that define a Super brand is consistency.
A Super brand is consistent in the following areas:

  • Look
  • Feel
  • Identity
  • Service
  • An offer backed by delivering the promised benefits fully, every-time, everywhere, and at the right price.

In an evolving market, it is this very consistency that local marketers need to worry about, because it is able to continuously satisfy the drive that will have made the brand their premium choice and will be relevant to local needs.
