THE Zimbabwe National Army must remain resolute in safeguarding the gains of independence in the face of economic challenges as they are a passing phase. Speaking during the graduation ceremony of 157 military police at HQ One Infantry Brigade in Bulawayo yesterday, Quarter Master (Staff), Colonel Tendai Dzirutwe, said challenges facing the army were known and measures were in place to address them.

“Most of the logistical requirements have already been forwarded to Army Head Quarters for consideration. Let me also hasten to say that despite the prevailing resource constraints the organisation is experiencing, this is a passing phase.

“You must remain resolute and dedicated to the maintenance of discipline,” he said.
The graduating officers were drawn from the ZNA, Air Force of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services and Namibia Military Police.

Col Dzirutwe challenged the graduating officers to put into practice what they had learnt.
“I therefore urge you to rise to the challenge of putting into practice what you have learnt when you go to your respective country, formation bases and units,” he said.

Col Dzirutwe said their courses, that include junior investigation, basic martial arts, regimental police, dog handling, military police records and maintenance, were designed to instill discipline in the service.

“The courses were designed to enable the graduands to effectively and efficiently enforce discipline and combat crime in our respective organisations,” he said.

Col Dzirutwe said one of the officers failed to complete the six-month course on medical grounds.
