THE Zanu-PF leadership in Midlands province has launched economic empowerment projects meant to ensure self-sufficiency and food security at household level.
Sixty-six trainees received certificates after undergoing a two-day training workshop in making bread, confectionery, petroleum jelly, shoe polish, floor polish and candles among others.
Member of Parliament (MP) for Vungu Constituency, Cde Omega Sibanda, said the project was also meant to ensure the province participates in economic development.
“The project is meant to ensure that there is self-sufficiency in the province, as well as making sure the party participates in the national economy,” he said.
“The project will also ensure that villagers get products at reasonable and affordable prices.
“We have 11 wards and we selected five women and one male from each ward.”
Cde Sibanda added that those trained will be required to mobilise other villagers from their wards and apply for loans from the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank.
He said the concept would also ease unemployment in rural areas, as well as uplift the lives of rural people.
Zanu-PF MPs across the country have been carrying out similar projects.
The official launch of the programme was held in July by the party’s national chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, after her visit to China, where a delegation she led witnessed the importance of having the party participate in economic activities.
To support the programme, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri mobilised resources for provincial training workshops.
