President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be guest of honour at Buy Zimbabwe’s fifth annual awards ceremony to be held in Harare tomorrow.
The awards honour outstanding companies and individuals that would have promoted procurement of locally-manufactured goods, leading to job creation and a lower import bill.
Since inception in 2011, Buy Zimbabwe has been championing domestic business to elevate quality products and services as foreign products were flooding the market.
Buy Zimbabwe chief executive Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere said: “We have a Buy Zimbabwe Excellency Award, which seeks to identify and celebrate industries and retail outlets that have supported local procurement.
“The awards also seek to showcase the best of Zimbabwe. For a long time, Zimbabwe’s products, prices and quality have been regarded as inferior compared to products from other countries.
“This year, the guest of honour is President Emmerson Mnangagwa. In his inauguration speech, he emphasised the need to create jobs.
“The jobs can only be created through local procurement.”
President Mnangagwa is on an aggressive drive to reboot Zimbabwe’s industry, whose capacity utilisation has been subdued for years.
