THE construction of Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa High School in Mutoko District is underway, with the first classroom block and a staff house now over 90 percent complete.
The new school, which is being developed in phases, will eventually include modern boarding facilities and is set to become a model institution for the province.
On Tuesday, the Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, toured the construction site as part of an assessment of ongoing development projects in Mutoko District.
In an interview after the tour, Advocate Ndudzo expressed satisfaction with the progress.
“This will be a model school whose design will be replicated across the province,” he said.
“We have a classroom block and a staff house here, both nearing completion.
“What’s encouraging is that most of the materials needed to finish this phase are already on site.”
Adv Ndudzo commended the teamwork among Government departments involved in the project, adding that the project is on track for timely completion.
“So the institution will be done in phases and we are now in the first phase,” he added.
“I want to thank President Mnangagwa for remembering the people of Mutoko and allowing them to use his name on this school.”
He said the school would significantly improve access to education for pupils in the area.
Mutoko South legislator, Isaac Tasikani, hailed the school as a game changer for the constituency, saying it would feature cutting-edge learning technologies.
“It will be the best school for the pupils and our children will access the best education,” he said.
“We want to thank President Mnangagwa for this gesture and as you might know, this will be the first boarding school in my constituency.”
Local resident Mrs Elika Zvenyika welcomed the development, saying the school marks a turning point in the delivery of quality education in the area.
“When the President agreed to assist us with a state-of-the-art school, we were all excited, and now we are seeing promise being fulfilled,” she said.
Minister Ndudzo was accompanied on the tour by Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development (Oil and Gas Research) Caleb Makwiranzou, Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Mr Tavabarira Kutamahufa, Mutoko South legislator Isaac Tasikani and other Government officials from the province.
