President Mnangagwa to commission flagship projects in Masvingo

President Mnangagwa will soon commission several flagship projects across Masvingo whose development has pivoted the province towards becoming a US$8 billion economy by 2030.
Among the projects set to be commissioned by the President is the Zimbabwe Zhongxin Chrome Smelting Plant, built at a cost of US$70 million.
Construction of the plant has revolutionised chrome mining in Mashava and surrounding areas while earning more wealth for the economy through chrome beneficiation.
The President is also expected to commission the US$15 million Great Zimbabwe Hydro Power Company mini-hydro power plant at Lake Mutirikwi.
The plant generates 5MW that is being fed into the national grid daily since the beginning of this year.
Permanent Secretary for Presidential Affairs and Devolution, Mr Tafadzwa Muguti, confirmed the impending commissioning of flagship projects in Masvingo by President Mnangagwa.
Mr Muguti toured the chrome smelting plant in Mashava and the mini hydro power plant at Lake Mutirikwi in the company of the permanent secretary for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa, accompanied by other senior Government officials.
The two permanent secretaries both lauded the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa for the successful pivoting of Masvingo towards sustainable socio-economic transformation anchored on investment in key sectors such as mining and power generation.
Mr Muguti noted that Masvingo’s mining potential could be fully realised, thanks to power projects such as the one at Lake Mutirikwi, since the availability of power is a key provision for successful mining.
Dr Pazvakavambwa noted that President Mnangagwa’s fingerprints are all over the transformative development taking place in Masvingo for the benefit of its citizens and powering the growth of the provincial gross domestic product.
