Nyemudzai Kakore Herald Reporter
The widow of the late nationalist and national hero Dr Edison Sithole, Mrs Loice Sithole, has died. She was 69. Mrs Sithole succumbed to a heart condition on Thursday which worsened soon after the death of her brother Mr Josiah Azeti. Mrs Sithole was married to Dr Sithole from 1973 to 1975 when he disappeared under unclear circumstances during the liberation struggle.

Her son Mr Edison Sithole junior confirmed the death of his mother.

“My mother had been suffering from a heart condition for a long time,” he said.

“After learning of the death of her brother Mr Josiah Azeti, she failed to contain her grief. She died in her sleep the following day.”

Mr Sithole expressed gratitude to the Zimbabwe National Army for the assistance they offered to his family.

“We want to thank ZNA for assisting us with the funeral arrangements,” he said.

“They provided us with tents, transport and food.”

Mrs Sithole was an Arts and Sport teacher at St Peters Kubatana from 1978 to 1980. She then became a court interpreter from 1981 to 2011 before she retired.

Her husband, Dr Sithole, was born on June 5, 1935, but together with his secretary Miriam Mhlanga disappeared in 1975 and up to this day their remains have never been found.

Mrs Sithole will be buried tomorrow at her rural home in Lower Gweru.

She is survived by three children and five grandchildren.

Mourners are gathered at the Mbare Magistrate Court flats.
