Editorial Comment: Crimes of passion a huge concern

A SURGE in crimes of passion continues to distort the definition of true love.

True love comes with happiness, peace of mind and natural affection.

It heals broken hearts and soothes the soul. Deep secrets are shared while challenges are tackled, as a united front, when true love exists.

Transparency and honesty are found in its roots.

Genuine respect makes romantic relationships firm and beautiful.

While temptations are part of the journey, trust and faith in each other makes true love relationships stand the test of everything.

All this can only be found when one is blessed with a true partner.

Once you get a loyal partner, marital bliss is guaranteed in future.

However, it becomes a cause for concern when the other part abuses love. Love should never hurt or come with strange conditions.

Unfortunately, this has become the norm with most relationships nowadays.

True love is now hard to find as many unions lack some of the aforementioned requirements. Lust, infidelity and greed have spoiled the true definition of love.

Violence has also marred the true definition of true love.

Lovers savaging, harassing and killing their partners, continue to grab headlines, for all the wrong reasons.

In July alone, H-Metro has been running these sad tales of crimes of passion.

The most prominent one being the Ximex Mall dealer, Tafadzwa “Boss Pango” Murengwa, who shot dead his lover Samantha Dzapata.

Out of shame, Boss Pango downed poison and died at a local hospital.

Investigations by H-Metro have shown that Boss Pango started tormenting Samantha after she decided to quit their relationship.

He had a plot to eliminate Samantha and appeared determined to either have her or no one would have her.

This was just bad since there was no need to kill someone you love.

There are also several cases of such crimes of passion that we reported in yesterday’s paper.

They involved high-profile figures like lawyers, business executives and dealers. Some of these spine-chilling crimes of crimes of passion are still fresh in the minds of many.

However, it is the way history appears to be repeating itself, which is shocking and worrisome, at a time when people can easily solve their challenges.

As the media, we have always urged feuding couples to resort to dialogue and counselling.

Once these fail, walking away is the only solution rather than hanging on.

It’s also sad that there are some partners who bottle abuse for years while they are dying in silence.

Love is never worth dying for, especially when the unions have irretrievably broken down. Gender-based violence is also another cancer, which has distorted the definition of true love.

Over the years, many partners have chosen silence, when it comes to GBV, which should be reported for perpetrators to be brought to book.

In this age, we don’t expect partners to sacrifice their souls in toxic relationships just for the sake of keeping a certain status.

Let’s all shun crimes of passion and toxic relationships.
