Editorial comment: Freeman strikes the right notes

REVELLERS are hard to please but Zim dancehall stalwart Freeman has the mojo to win their hearts.

The HKD boss made history last Saturday when he attracted a bumper crowd at Alexandra Sports Club in the capital.

Not only did he break many records but he proved all his doubting Thomases wrong and reinforced the principle that patience, dedication and focus do pay in life.

The chanter successfully launched his 12th album titled David & Goliath.

It was, indeed, a memorable affair as the chanter was embraced by fans.

His Jamaican counterpart, Chris Martin, who flew all the way from Kingston, made Freeman’s job easier on this big occasion with a fine guest performance.

Although it sounded like an April Fools’ Day prank when he first announced the news about Chris Martin’s invitation to the event, Freeman simply delivered a flawless act set to remain engraved in the minds of many in attendance.

Chris Martin, too, was at his usual best as he gave fans value for their money.

It was, indeed, a launch with a difference where fans embraced their own in style.

Freeman proved his mettle as he attracted a big crowd at the venue despite the fact that the annual Jacaranda Festival was taking place at Old Hararians.

The faith and belief that Freeman’s fans showed in him was, indeed, overwhelming.

However, a lot of lessons were learnt at Freeman’s album launch.

One of the biggest lessons was the need for proper planning and timing when organising high-profile events.

And, in this case, Freeman and his partners appear to have done their homework thoroughly.

He also reminded fellow Zim dancehall artists that proper planning and timing is all that is needed in showbiz to succeed.

Without proper coordination and unity, the event could not have been a success.

While the Chris Martin factor cannot be easily ignored, Freeman proved that international synergies do pay in showbiz.

In showbiz, it’ never too late to learn from the best, as was the case with Freeman, who is willing to hone his skill.

Despite amassing several gongs on home soil, Freeman has never let complacency take its toll on him.

This should also come as a lesson to fellow artists that they need to keep on working hard to ensure they make it to the top.

One of the lessons to be shared is that creativity and innovation do pay.

In Freeman’s case, he keeps on evolving with each passing day.

He has totally transformed himself from a chanter, who used to perform with backtracks, to a man who now uses a live band.

By using a live band, this has helped him to improvise on stage.

All this is needed to ensure that artists show maturity.

In a nutshell, proper planning, aggressive marketing and determination really matter in life.
