WHEN we asked whether Jah Prayzah has grown into a big brand, who can be mentioned in conversations about legends like Oliver Mtukudzi, we didn’t know that it would create a storm.
We knew that it would trigger debate but we didn’t think that it would be to the extent we have been seeing in the past two days.
It has been a hurricane of feedback and we have seen the debate about our content being shared on various social media platforms and by a number of bloggers.
We have seen people, who mainly deal with political issues, also coming into the debate and giving their views about our article.
We respect all the views.
What we want to make very clear is that we were not trying to compare Jah Prayzah and Tuku and that is why our headline was a question.
The question was whether Jah Prayzah has made enough inroads, in his career, he can now be talked about in conversations where the names of legends like Tuku are mentioned. That doesn’t suggest that we are saying Jah Prayzah is now better than Tuku because we know that while he is on the right path to greatness, there is a lot for him still to cover to reach that elite league of excellence.
Jah is just 38 and he has time on his side and if he can keep producing the kinds of hits, which he has been making in the past decade, then he can really reach the top.
Tuku’s legendary status was built over decades of hard work and we know and respect that and it’s very clear to us that he has set a benchmark when it comes to legendary status in this country.
But, we also believe that doesn’t mean we can’t use that greatness to measure the progress which other artists will be making and we feel that, in doing so, we are actually acknowledging that Tuku remains the GOAT.

It’s like football.
We all know that Dynamos are the biggest and most successful football club in Zimbabwe with the Glamour Boys having won the league championship 21 times and being the only Zimbabwean club to reach the final of the CAF Champions League.
However, this benchmark also means that we can use the Glamour Boys to measure the progress which other teams would be making in their pursuit for greatness.
It doesn’t mean that by mentioning Dynamos we would be saying that the clubs that we would be talking about have become as successful or as big as the Glamour Boys.
For us, Tuku set the benchmark and we will always derive a lot of pride from the fact that he was one of us and he set the standards for others to follow.
We are also happy that Jah Prayzah is on the right path to greatness and we will always celebrate that because he is one of us.
