Flamboyant rapper and businessman, Mudiwa Hood’s move to launch the Billionaire Academy Club at all universities in the country is a welcome development.
The move, which is aimed at increasing the economic citizenship of children and youths, shows we have great thinkers in our midst.
What is now needed is support to ensure Mudiwa’s move pays off.
He emphasised that most students were brilliant in academics, but lack skills of making money and mastering life as that is not taught at school.
After serious consultation, Mudiwa is convinced that most things taught in school is not relevant to our day-to-day life.
It’s time we create entrepreneurs instead of workers.
This will help them to become self-reliant.
Mudiwa indicated that his club would also help students in every aspect of life, including mental health, life skills, business leadership and career guidance.
He also believes that there is a need to address mental health issues and violence, which are taking their toll on students and young people in general.
Research has shown that students are dying in silence due to pressure, which is what Mudiwa’s initiative will address to save lives.
People like Mudiwa need to be complemented to ensure that his practical initiative does not become just another talk show.
While the singer might appear to be boasting, he must be lauded when he excels.
A motivational speaker in his own right, Mudiwa has done quite a lot to help uplift less privileged students’ lives.
He has been doing a lot of charity work, which has touched the hearts of many.
Education chiefs need to complement great initiatives aimed at transforming people’s lives.
What makes Mudiwa’s idea unique is that he preaches what he does, and that is refreshing and commendable.
For this to succeed, the full cooperation of all stakeholders is paramount.
There has to be a buy-in from students, education chiefs and the Government.
The country can only move forward if we start empowering young people to be their own bosses.
This will lessen the Government’s social burden.
Instead of relying on the Government’s handouts, we should now be self-reliant and hard working.
A change in mindset is now needed by every student.
Tertiary students should start focusing on programmes that can improve their lives.
By acquiring life skills and business skills, this will go a long way in ensuring that we create a new generation of entrepreneurs.
It’s not too late for students to embrace such initiatives like the Billionaire Academy Club, which can change lives if its objectives are followed through.
