Editorial comment: Madam Boss misfired horribly

IN life, there are situations, conditions and circumstances we don’t have control over.

All we want in life is happiness, peace and good health.

Life can be a nightmare when bad luck strikes.

However, it takes a strong heart, and mental strength, for one to conquer under such conditions.

Misfortune, disability and mental illness can strike anytime during our lives.

That’s a fact and no one can claim to be immune to all this.

As long as we are alive, we could be struck by misfortune, any day and any minute.

That’s the way our world is.

People who are disabled, or those battling mental issues, are not outcasts and deserve respect and care.

Sidelining people, who have these conditions, or calling them names is not right at all.

In yesterday’s issue, we carried a story involving socialite and comedienne, Madam Boss, who riled fans on social media due to her recklessness.

She was branded insensitive following her post about one Garikai Zindi, who reportedly regained sanity, after being prayed for by Prophet Walter Magaya.

Zindi, believed to be an educated man, became a troubled man during his stay in Rusape, where he ended up roaming the streets.

However, according to Prophet Magaya, he was transformed after a number of prayer sessions.

He was then given some money to start a business.

This is where Madam Boss came in.

She posted a picture of Zindi before, during and after being prayed for, with an attachment of a caption which did not go down well with a lot of her fans.

 It read:

“Hakuna vamwe vane mapenzi here tiende tiende nawo tindozvionera.”

The post riled many of her fans who turned to social media to blast Madam Boss for the insensitivity of her words.

Whether she was doubting the authenticity of Prophet Magaya’s prophecy, or simply seeking relevance, we will never know.

What we know is that she got it wrong.

The furious attack she got from her fans shows that the error-prone Madam Boss should know her limits.

It was also unfortunate for someone of her calibre to be found in this centre of storm.

With over one million followers on Facebook, Madam Boss should post stuff with substance on social media.

The celebrity needs to be reminded that she is no longer an ordinary citizen, judging by her growing profile.

Those in despair now even look up to people like Madam Boss for help and strength.

Her social media gaffe should come as a reminder to other influential people to be careful about what they post.

Real celebrities, with multiple endorsement deals and awards like Madam Boss, should use their influence to make a change in the lives of people.

She shouldn’t be using words like “benzi” because it is inappropriate.

She needs to learn that there is nothing special about her and, just like the man she appeared to be mocking, she can wake up tomorrow dealing with similar challenges.
