Editorial Comment: Respect other people’s marriages

INFIDELITY is betrayal and it’s one of the main reasons the marriage institution is being tested and a number of unions are collapsing.

It has brought a lot of tears to a lot of people who really wanted to see their marriages last and succeed.

And, it appears betraying one’s partner has become a common phenomenon these days.

Being unfaithful to your loyal partner does not only hurt but it is demonic and wicked.

God-fearing spouses should always respect their partners and be faithful to them all the time.

Many are now wondering why people enter the marriage institution when they are not yet ready.

In the Holy Bible, there are mighty men, whose fall from grace was as a result of infidelity.

We also read about powerful men who were seduced by women, who coaxed them, as they wanted to know their sources of power.

Most of those involved in infidelity have become serial offenders, with no signs of them either stopping or even repenting.

Others have been cautioned for their actions but they still go on with their old ways.

In the worst case scenarios, some of these perpetrators have been bashed, shamed and some have even been killed for dating and bedding married people.

In yesterday’s issue, we led with the story of infidelity.

The story involved a Harare man, who is being sued US$250 000, for bedding and impregnating a married woman.

Although the matter has been set for Tuesday next week, the whole issue is really disturbing to note that some people no longer respect other people’s marriages.

The case has seen a Chitungwiza woman being dragged to court, facing bigamy charges, after being allegedly impregnated by another man, while married.

The complainant is her 53-year-old husband, who discovered that his wife was impregnated by another man, and gave birth to a baby girl in June.

What is sad about this case is that the woman was impregnated by another man while her marriage still subsisted.

This was totally unacceptable, and a sign of betrayal, which should not have happened.

A survey has shown that there are several cases of infidelity involving married spouses.

There are also some victims of infidelity dying in silence since they don’t have the capacity to sue.

Some don’t want to see their names being dragged through all the controversy that comes with reporting such cases.

Other victims of infidelity are not aware of the procedures to follow when they want to pursue their cases.

In extreme cases, there are some partners who prefer concealing such matters for the sake of keeping their marriage.

However, concealing such cases has fuelled a number of problems like gender-based violence, depression and suicide.

In cases where the other part is found guilty of infidelity, the right choice is to simply walk out of these unions and sue the parties involved.

It’s high time people learn to respect marriage institutions and stop abusing money, power and authority to wreck other people’s marriages.
