MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai is known for vacillating and changing positions and colours like a chameleon, and in the process confusing his long-suffering supporters.
It has been said before and he reinforces the assertion time and again that Mr Tsvangirai goes wherever any wind takes him.
The man adopts and takes positions as and when they benefit him and his cronies and disregards the interests of his party.
We reported yesterday that Mr Tsvangirai, who has largely opposed the zanu-pf Government’s land reforms since their fast-track phase started in 2000, is renting a farm near Kwekwe where he is running a cattle ranching project.
This should be an eye-opener for his supporters.
It is sad that he made the majority of his followers miss out on the land reform programme, claiming that the policy was chaotic.
He dissuaded thousands of Zimbabweans from applying for land saying it was all a political gimmick.
Now the man is renting part of Gabbari Farm, 33km outside Kwekwe towards Nkayi, in a clear indication that he realises that land was at the centre of the liberation struggle that left many gallant sons and daughters killed or maimed.
What is more, this was a liberation struggle that he had no stomach for seeing as he immediately high-tailed back to work in Southern Rhodesia than to fight settler and British colonialism.
If Mr Tsvangirai appreciates the importance of land, why did he seek to deny so many Zimbabweans the God-given right to own a piece of it?
Why does he want to make so many Zimbabweans think that their salvation is somewhere in the West when he is busy partaking in these empowerment programmes clandestinely?
Picture this; because Mr Tsvangirai is missing the luxuries and benefits he enjoyed when he was Prime Minister in the inclusive Government.
Just about every time he has made a public statement to his supporters since July 31, 2013 he always speaks of how zanu-pf will soon reach out to him to form another coalition Government.
It is evident that self-interest is at the centre of almost all of Mr Tsvangirai’s actions.
He wants to get into Government so that he can secure the Highlands State property that he has been living in.
After enjoying the cushioned life of a Prime Minister for several years, Tsvangirai has become accustomed to a pampered existence and now he wants to join the thousands of Zimbabweans who have made a good living from farming the land.
All this on the backs of his supporters who wait in poverty for a never-never land in which his “rich friends” in the West will come with jobs and food for them!
On the issue of the Highlands mansion, on one hand Mr Tsvangirai will bleat about how zanu-pf stole the elections and that President Mugabe’s tenure is illegitimate; while on the other hand he will write letters to him pleading and negotiating to be allowed to stay on in the house.
Ministers from mdc-t who were using state residences have since moved out of those properties, but Mr Tsvangirai clings on to the Highlands house, retiring to it after farming Nicodemously in Kwekwe.
Mr Tsvangirai’s supporters must refuse to be fooled any longer.
They must demand that their party endorses land reforms because Mr Tsvangirai is evidently a potential willing beneficiary of the progressive programme. He is probably just too embarrassed to approach the lands office or appropriate Provincial Minister to plead his case.
His supporters must also demand that their party endorse President Mugabe and Zanu-PF’s well deserved victories, because Mr Tsvangirai recognises this whenever he thinks of the Highlands house.
