Editorial comment: We should not wait for Valentine’s Day

YESTERDAY was St Valentine’s Day.

It’s a special day dedicated to love birds across the globe.

Expensive gifts are usually exchanged on St Valentine’s Day as couples will be appreciating each other.

Some couples hold exclusive dinners as they celebrate their unions.

There are some who now call February the month of love.

Events managers usually celebrate this month in style by holding month-long festivities.

This culture has been going on for years.

These gifts have a sentimental value if they genuinely come from the bottom of the heart.

Those unlucky in love will be hoping for the best during this time of the year.

In fact, February 14 is a reminder to those in rocky relationships to mend their affairs.

The day gives them an opportunity to do some self-introspection and weigh whether their affairs are working or not.

All this is done to make sure couples enjoy their unions.

To those in true love, St Valentine’s Day comes as a reminder for them to keep the flame burning.

However, the day can be a horrible one for those who are dating wrong people or have turned into married cheats.

A number of marriages and unions have ended on St Valentine’s Day as some people reconcile with their partners.

The lucky ones are usually pampered with gifts on St Valentine’s Day, which is worth celebrating.

Proposals are also usually done on this particular day as love-birds seek to make their affairs stronger.

Trust, respect and honesty have over the years proved to be the prerequisites in making love relationships work.

There are, however, some who would argue that love should be practised every day.

We should not wait for St Valentine’s Day to show each other love.

Genuine love and appreciation should be displayed on a daily basis.

Couples should never live a lie by faking love as is the case with some people.

Research has shown that we have couples who can go out of their way to pamper their partners with gifts when in actual fact they don’t mean it.

This is common among men and women dating multiple partners.

Lust pushes people to end up behaving in this way, which is totally sad and unacceptable.

Fake love can be nightmarish, especially when the other person realises the truth.

Love should not hurt but it has to be enjoyable among couples.

True love should come from the bottom of the heart.

Couples should learn to love each other in both good and trying times.

While true love is hard to come by nowadays, we should always pray to God for good partners.

We should not wait for St Valentine’s Day to show each other true love.

True love should be shown on a daily basis.
