Editorial comment: Youths must embrace Guti’s values

Renowned cleric Archbishop Ezekiel Guti’s ministry spanned over seven decades. His leadership and teachings were instrumental in transforming the religious landscape of Zimbabwe, making ZAOGA one of the most prominent religious organisations in the country.

Archbishop Guti’s influence went beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, where his teachings inspired many in Africa and around the world. His life was marked by an unwavering commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and his teachings were always centred around love, faith and hope. His ministry touched many lives, providing spiritual guidance, social support, and emotional healing to those in need.

As Zimbabwe mourns the loss of this great leader and servant of God, there are important lessons the youth can learn from his life.

Firstly, Archbishop Guti’s life was characterised by a deep devotion to the Lord. He understood the importance of prayer and fasting and encouraged others to do the same. He believed that God speaks to those who are willing to listen, and so he spent time seeking the Lord’s face and communing with Him. The youth can learn from this and prioritise a personal relationship with God.

In a world where many young people are struggling with identity issues, peer pressure, and mental health challenges, developing a strong spiritual grounding is necessary. Like Archbishop Guti, the youth can seek guidance from God, which will enable them to thrive in all areas of their lives.

Archbishop Guti showed tenacity and resilience in his ministry. He faced many hurdles, including persecution, opposition, and criticism. However, he refused to be deterred, knowing that the call to ministry was not an easy one. He persevered, believing that God was with him and would sustain him through the tough times.

The youth can learn from this and develop resilience in their endeavours. They should not be discouraged by failure or setbacks, but rather should persist in their goals, trusting in God’s plan for their lives.

Archbishop Guti was a man of great compassion. He understood the needs of those around him and was willing to help them. His ministry was not just about preaching the gospel, but also about meeting the physical, emotional, and social needs of the people.

The youth can learn from this and develop a heart of service towards others. They should seek to help the less fortunate, volunteer in their communities.

Archbishop Guti was a man of vision. He had a clear understanding of what God wanted him to achieve and pursued it with passion and determination. He recognised that God had given him a specific mandate and worked tirelessly to fulfil it.

The youth can learn from his visionary leadership and set goals for their lives. They should have a clear understanding of what they want to achieve and work towards it.

Archbishop Guti was a man of humility. Despite his many achievements and accolades, he remained grounded and humble. He never sought personal glory or recognition, but rather gave all the glory to God.

The youth can learn from this and cultivate humility in their lives. They should avoid arrogance and pride, recognising that all their achievements come from God and that it is He who deserves all the glory.

The life of Archbishop Guti was one of great impact and influence. He was a trailblazer, an icon, and a visionary leader who left an indelible mark on the religious landscape of Zimbabwe. His legacy lives on, and the youth can learn invaluable lessons from his life and ministry.

As Zimbabweans pay tribute to this great servant of God, the youth should take a leaf from his life and cultivate a deep devotion to God, develop resilience in their endeavours, have a heart of service, pursue their goals with passion and determination, and cultivate humility in all they do. These values, when embraced, will enable the youth to lead successful, purposeful, and impactful lives, just like Archbishop Guti did.
