EDITORIAL : DON’T FOOL CONGREGANTS

THE fake resurrection bid of a congregant by a Norton prophet is another new low in religious circles.

It comes at a time when gullible congregants are being taken for a deadly ride by self-styled prophets.

This new breed of prophets, who continue fooling congregants with their stunts, is so daring.

Prophet Vincent Nyamadzawo of Tree Life International Ministries is one such preacher who has torched a storm.

He riled mourners recently after he tried to ‘bring to life’ a deceased congregant.

After a failed two-hour prayer session, in which he claimed he was trying to ‘resurrect’ the deceased congregant, he was given a thorough hiding by angry mourners.

Prior to the death of the congregant, he had also prayed for the church member.

Reports say the prophet was forced to leave his church base in shame.

His new base is reported to be Mvurwi. After the Norton shame, the prophet had no option but to leave.

He saved himself from further embarrassment after moving to the farming community of Mvurwi where he has opened another branch.

Whether he will be able to woo new congregants or not remains a question for another day.

However, the huge embarrassment he suffered at the hands of mourners has left him with a battered image.

He has lost the faith of some people who were loyal to him over the years.

It’s unfortunate that most congregants have realised that they were under the stewardship of a fake prophet.

Some are regretting the time they spent attending Tree of Life International Ministries.

Others have since moved on and found new churches to worship the Lord.

His case must come as a lesson to other church leaders who believe in faking miracles.

Church leaders should simply stick to preaching the word of God to avoid being humiliated.

It’s not a sin for church leaders to be open about what they are good at and what they are not good at.

What the disgraced prophet of shame did in trying to bring to life a dead congregant was totally unacceptable. In fact, he owes the nation an apology.

Fake prophets have been grabbing headlines over the years in trying to woo congregants.

Across the Limpopo, there is a fake prophet who forced people to eat grass.

In Kenya, there is a pastor who now faces prosecution for starving members to death.

Paul Makenzie Nthenge’s starvation cult has grabbed international headlines.

Four years ago, Prophet Alph Lukau was in the headlines for his stunt to ‘resurrect’ a dead man in South Africa.

It’s unfortunate that we have similar people in Zimbabwe who are busy leading people astray.

It’s a shame that in this age and era, we still have gullible people falling victims to fake prophets.

As H-Metro, we have been highlighting similar cases on various platforms to raise awareness against fake prophets.

People should take our advice seriously to avoid being fooled by fake prophets.
