EDITORIAL : LET’S TRY TO HELP MADZIBABA ZAKARIA

SUNGURA legend Nicholas ‘Madzibaba’ Zakaria has appealed to Zimbabweans to pray for him as he battles some serious health challenges.

Known for his profound influence on the genre, the iconic musician’s absence from a family show at Zebra Village recently triggered serious concerns among his fans.

Madzibaba confirmed he hasn’t been well for some time.

He was forced to send Franco Slomo to lead his band at a recent family show where he was supposed to perform.

Revelations that he is under the weather have provoked an outpouring of love and support from his fans and fellow musicians.

Slomo pleaded with the local music industry to pray for Madzibaba.

He said this wasn’t the time for our artists to be fighting petty battles but it was the time for them to come together and try and help one of the pillars of their industry.

Kireni Zulu, another prominent figure in the industry, said artists should always be there to support each other, in good and bad times.

He said there was no point in pretending to love someone, when they are dead, when the same love was not directed towards them when they were alive.

Zulu said he has seen in the past many people stampeding to buy food and coffins at funerals when they didn’t even spend a cent to try and help the people, who would have died, try and beat whatever disease they were battling against.

He said the turf wars, which are dividing their industry now, were not part of their community in the past.

He said he never heard John Chibadura attacking the Chimbetus, even though they were rivals in the industry.

Their rivalry was not enmity and it was based on respect and it’s something that Zulu wants to see happening today.

He has a big point because today we see a lot of madness where all the focus appears to be on some silly turf wars.

This ends up dividing the artists.

Our artists can only be powerful, as a community, if they are united.

Only a united family of artists will be able to raise money to help someone like Madzibaba Zakaria and try to ensure that he gets the best possible medical care.

He is a legend in our country and we all have a duty to try and ensure that he gets the best possible medical care.

If we abandon Madzibaba Zakaria, what will then happen to someone like Slomo or Majuice when they find themselves in a similar situation?

Madzibaba Zakaria is more than a music star.

He is a godfather in the industry. He nurtured a lot of the sungura stars we have today.

He is a perfect example of a good man.

Check his history and you are unlikely to find any controversy related to him.

He knew that he should always be an exemplary man and we salute him for ensuring that he did just that.

He entertained us all these years and now is the time for us to pay him back.
