EDITORIAL: THIS HAIRSTYLE IS BETTER BABA SHERO

ALICK Macheso unveiled a new hairstyle at the weekend and this one appears to have been warmly received than the first one which torched a lot of controversy.

Baba Shero probably knew that his first outrageous hairstyle, in which he unveiled cornrows, would trigger the controversy but it’s very likely that he didn’t believe the extent of the feedback, especially the negative one.

Maybe, that explains why he quickly changed and came up with the refined one which he unveiled at a show during the weekend.

Football fans also had the privilege of seeing it from up close when he performed at Ascot in Gweru during the presentation of the PSL trophy to the champions Scottland.

We were not happy with the first hairstyle which Macheso unveiled because we felt that he was too old to go for the kind of hairstyles we expect from young musicians.

But, we are comfortable with the one he unveiled at the weekend because it has the kind of decency that we expect from someone like Macheso, who is a father figure in our music industry.

Of course, we would have preferred him to stick to the image he has presented in the past two decades— his natural hair.

It’s because it suits him the best given he has always portrayed himself as an ordinary hardworking man.

Someone like the ordinary man next door, the ordinary man in the street, just a simple man of simple tastes who works hard to feed his family and lets his talent do all the talking.

But, we also appreciate that Macheso is now living and working in a world which is different from the one which he walked into when he started his musical career.

This is a new and challenging digital world. It challenges the likes of Macheso to change the way they have been doing their business just like it has also challenged us at Zimpapers to invest in digital infrastructure that will see us deal with the new challenges that we face.

It’s happening all over the world and companies are changing to deal with the new challenges they are facing.

In today’s world, Macheso knows that it’s important that his brand has to trend on the new media spaces for his band and his music to remain relevant.

He knows that it’s as important for him to come up with a hit song as it is for him to remain relevant on such spaces like social media.

He knows he has to generate a lot of attention on those fields and this could come from something like a change of hairstyle.

He has been trending for the last two weeks, without even introducing a new song, thanks to just changing his hairstyle and, in today’s world, this is very important. Of course, he also knows that he has to back all this interest with some new hits.

But, this is a different world from the one where just releasing Shedia was good enough for him.
