adminIn a statement, ZAE chairperson Paul Mambo said the journalists have left a void in the profession that would be difficult to fill because experience cannot be learnt at institutions of higher learning, but comes with practice.
“It is with sadness that we learnt of the untimely death of the three veteran journalists,” said Mambo.
Dube and Manwere died on Monday in Harare while Mutasa died in Masvingo on the same day.
Mambo said the death of the three was not only a blow to their families, but the whole journalistic fraternity, which has not yet recovered from the death of three senior journalists at the beginning of this year.
He was referring to former editor of The Herald and Standard Bornwell Chakaodza, former Chronicle, Manica Post and Southern Times editor Makuwerere Bwititi and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Freedom Moyo.
Mutasa (51), who was the editor of the Masvingo Star was a former police officer, before he joined Ziana, then Chronicle and then returned to New Ziana. He succumbed to diabetes.
Manwere (43) was attested into the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in 1994 and posted to Bulawayo where he worked in the police public relations department and Outpost magazine before joining Sunday News and later the Zimbabwe Independent.
At the time of his death he was the communications and advocacy officer at the National Aids Council (NAC) headquarters in Harare. Manwere succumbed to meningitis.
Dube (47) was a former news producer and presenter at ZBC, where he also produced several dramas.
At the time of his death, Dube was a co-director of Video Audio Network. He succumbed to brain tumour.
Meanwhile, Dube was buried in Harare yesterday while Mutasa is expected to be buried at his rural home in Makoni district on a date yet to be announced.
