According to Donga, Mutonora lost on points to Samuel Kapapu in a welterweight division fight.
Veteran trainer Philip “Striker” Ndlovu of Makokoba’s Tshaka Youth Centre travelled with the two pugilists.
“The director of coaching at Mordicai Donga Big Fish Boxing Promotions, Philip Striker, went with the boys and it was unfortunate that both boxers lost. However, I must say Mutonora put up a brilliant performance considering that he turned professional in that game against veteran Kapapu. Holding on to the final bout and losing on points shows that the boy has a bright future,” Donga said.
The boxers are expected in Bulawayo tomorrow evening. Most boxers in the country have been getting fights in Namibia and for the past five years very few have succeeded in that country.
Meanwhile, the fights for two Bulawayo pugilists Dumezweni Ntuliki and Lovewell Maphosa that were set for tomorrow have been moved to mid-April.
Mordicai Donga Big Fish Boxing Promotions are the facilitators for the boxers who train under Ndlovu.
Ntuliki will trade leather in the lightweight division with Maphosa boxing in the bantamweight. Ntuliki last month had his title fight against Kondwani postponed at the 11th hour. The bout was the main fight of the Gilbert Josamu Memorial Tournament.
“They say charity begins at home and this is why I have decided to promote Ntuliki and Maphosa who hail from Bulawayo just like I do. My stable looks forward to organising professional bouts for local boxers in Namibia because we have good contacts there,” Donga said.
