INFORMATION, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Christopher Mushowe has urged youths to take education seriously and uphold Christian values in order to prosper in life.
Minister Mushowe made the remarks in Harare yesterday at the wedding of a beneficiary of the Presidential Scholarship, Mr Simbarashe Tenderere and his long time sweetheart Rumbidzai Mashonga.
The Minister also presented a gift to the newlyweds on behalf of the First Family.
He said youths should emulate Mr Tenderere who worked hard in pursuing his degree in Pharmacy after getting the scholarship.
Both Mr Tenderere and his new bride studied at Rhodes University in South Africa.
“Simbarashe is a former student under the Presidential Scholarship and he has set an example for all the youths out there because he has preserved himself.
“It is because of the good work that these two have done that the First Family has seen worth in giving them a gift on their wedding day,” Minister Mushohwe said.
He also hailed President Mugabe for the Presidential Scholarship, saying it has uplifted the livelihoods of many people as 25 000 beneficiaries were doing well in various professions.
“It’s good to note that a lot of students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds are making it in life, thanks to the Presidential Scholarship,” he said. President Mugabe is patron to the Presidential Scholarship Programme which was established in 1995 to provide university education to deserving students. Each year, the programme draws students from every district in the country’s 10 provinces.
