Guruve South legislator (Zanu-PF) and former Cabinet minister Cde Edward Chindori Chininga has died. He was 58. Cde Chininga died on the spot Wednesday night after the car he was driving failed to stop at the T-junction of Raffingora and Mvurwi roads and rammed into a tree.He was travelling from Raffingora to Guruve when the accident occurred.
Passengers in his car, whose number could not be established last night, escaped with minor injuries.
Mashonaland Central provincial police traffic co-ordinator Superintendent Ephraim Nyakata confirmed Cde Chininga’s death to ZBC news.
Cde Chindori Chininga, a member of the parliamentary portfolio committee on mines and energy, served as the Minister of Mines and Mining Development between 2000 and 2004.
Before that he had been the Deputy Minister of Mines, Environment and Tourism from 1995 to 2000.
Cde Chininga was the chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy and the Chairman of the Stakeholders Committee of the Parliamentary Select Committee on the New Constitution.
He once served as the Zimbabwe Tourist Development Director (Southern Africa) and also worked as the director for the Zimbabwe tourism offices in New York.
