adminCAIRO. — Egypt’s interim leadership has sworn in new governors for the country’s all but two governorates, state- run MENA news agency reported Tuesday.
The reshuffle includes 18 new governors, six old ones who will maintain in their positions and one who is moved from Red Sea governorate to Alexandria. It did not introduce new chiefs to the governorates of Red Sea and Minufiya.
There are in all 27 governorates in Egypt. Galal al-Saeed has been appointed as new governor of the capital Cairo.
State TV showed the swearing-in ceremony, during which the 25 governors and nine deputy governors were taking oath of office before interim President Adli Mansour.
As the new governors were sworn in, some pro-Morsi protesters have set off from Rabia al-Adawiya Square in Cairo’s Nasr City to march to the presidential palace in Cairo to protest against the reshuffle.
Some of them say that most of the new governors have a military background, while others claim their appointments are illegitimate in the first place due to the illegitimacy of the interim leadership that took over the country after Morsi’s overthrow in early July. — Xinhua.
