Their captain Ahmed Mohammed and Moahmed Walid weighed in with a goal each in the 41st minute and 68th minutes respectively.

Sharkia are the defending champions and yesterday they proved to be too good for Hippo Valley dominating the game throughout.

Hippo Valley finished the match with 10-men after Nigel Dube was red carded in the 59th minute for swearing at the umpire.

While Hippo Valley fell to Sharkia their compatriots Huellets were beaten 4-3 by Golden Sticks of Ghana.
Hockey Association of Zimbabwe vice president, Humphrey Chigwedere claimed t was “an unlucky day’’ for local clubs and noted that it was a tough day for Hippo Valley.

“The match was very tough for Hippo Valley because Sharkia had watched them playing before and they stepped up their gear.

“By chance they could have got one or two goals but they were just unlucky.
“The match between Huellets and Golden Sticks was a close one and they were just unlucky to not have at least come up with a draw,” said Chigwedere.

Trustees Hope Club of Ghana beat Yobe from Nigeria 4-0 in the last match of the day in the men’s category.

In the women’s section, sole representatives Bulawayo Athletic Club suffered their second defeat at the hands of Heartland Queens of Nigeria when they were beaten 2-0.
