Eight die in road accident

another car at an intersection along the Harare-Bulawayo Road on Monday night, police have said.
The Honda, which had eight people on board turned right in front of an oncoming, Toyota Mark II and was hit on the side before it rolled several times and landed on its roof. The accident occurred near the 152-kilometre peg.

Mashonaland West police spoke-sperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the accident.
He said: “The vehicle was travelling towards Kwekwe from Kad-oma when the driver of a Honda turned right on approaching the 152 kilometre peg in front of an oncoming vehicle resulting in the collision.

“On turning, the vehicle was hit on the left front passenger door and rolled several times.
Passengers, including children, were thrown out of the car through the windows before the vehicle finally landed on its roof.”

The deceased have been identified as the Machokoto family – Cousin (31) and the driver, Emm-anuel (35), Sarah (3), Sibongile (5), Gladys Magomo (30), Rapheal Mataruse (41), Precious Mateo and her four-month-old daughter Ruvarashe Bagu.

The driver of the Honda died on the spot together with six other passengers while the other one died on admission at Kadoma Hospital. One person survived with serious injuries.
However, all the three passengers aboard the Toyota Mark II escaped with serious injuries.
They were reported to be in a stable condition by late yesterday afternoon.
