Eight Street favourite in The Republic Cup

run The Republic Cup with US$50 000 in stakes at Borrowdale racecourse tomorrow.
Coming at number four on the card, the equine athlete saddled by Kirk Swanson will have jockey Quinton Riddle holding the straps over the 1 900m sprint.
Eight Street could find the distance to its liking after he ran second fiddle to local champion Grisham in his two last races. Since coming back from a 105-day rest to win the Independence Cup, Eight Street has put behind the previous disappointing form and could the one to watch.
Eight Street beat Captains’ Tiger by 1.25 lens to win the Independence Cup 1600m but lost twice to Grisham in the 2000m Castle Tankard Grade One race and the 1800 OK Grand Challenge Grade Two event. Now Grisham has not been nominated for this Grade Three race and this leaves Eight Street as the one to beat. However, he has to shrug off the four-year-old chestnut gelding Imperial Dice (9).
The Parade Leader off-spring is coming from the Noelene Peech yard and will have Derreck David on board.
Imperial Dice will have the advantage of carrying a weight of 52,5kgs while another runner who could get a place is Lisa Harris’ Gracie Jones.
A decent filly, who still has a lot to show, Gracie Jones will partner Gavin Lerena as she guns for her sixth career win from 16 starts.
Another horse in the reckoning is the seasoned Chill Out (1) by Harris with Willie Uys. Chill Out can endure the distance after he beat Splendid Tumbur by 3,75lens on the last run over 2700m.
Rider Sherman Brown gives his services to Captain’s Tiger (3) who carries a heavy weight of 60,5kg.
