FOR shamelessly bashing his mother-in-law demanding that she brings back his wife, an Odzi man has been arraigned before the courts.
Bensen Mupariwa (38) pleaded guilty to assaulting Maud Kapito (63) when he appeared before Mutare senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura.
Representing the State was Mr Fletcher Karombe.
It is alleged that Mupariwa visited Kapito around midnight sometime in December and demanded that she give him back his run-away wife.
“When Kapito failed to produce her daughter, Mupariwa assaulted her. Kapito sustained bruises all over her body, but was not seriously injured,” said Mr Karombe.
In defence, Mupariwa said he assaulted Kapito after he had given her money.
“She ordered that I pay her money so that she would bring back my wife who had run away from her matrimonial home and I paid her. She failed to deliver her back.
“I was so mad that she had failed to keep her word. I assaulted her,” he bragged.
Mrs Chiundura, however, told Mupariwa that his actions had proved that he was a criminal who deserved to be punished for assaulting his mother-in-law.
“Are you not ashamed of yourself for bragging that you assaulted your mother-in-law?
“You deserve a stiffer penalty because what you did is inhuman,” she said.
Mupariwa was remanded in custody for sentence.
