THE newly formed Bulawayo Elders Pool League has ushered in a new executive that will be chaired by one of the city’s renowned billiards player and bankroller, Tongai Mukahiwa.

The league that has 10 clubs was formed to accommodate players aged 40 and above who have been struggling to match young players’ cue stick skills.

According to one of the league’s organisers Archie Scholtz who will work hand in hand with Tapera Shumbanhete, Mukahiwa will be deputised by John Mangore.

“We are happy to announce that the establishment of the inaugural Bulawayo Elders Pool League has also seen the coming in of an executive led by Tongai Mukahiwa who will have John Mangoye as his vice chairman. Tafadzwa Muguyo was elected secretary general.

We look forward to a fruitful league that will keep the elders entertained and occupied during their spare time,” said Scholtz.
The 10 clubs that have been affiliated to the league are Queens Academy, Nketa 8, Dragons, Entumbane, Chillers, Skittle Palace, Raylton, Exchange, Marula and Nkulumane Police.

Meanwhile, Christine Sengwe beat 44 participants to lift the fourth edition of the Zimbabwe Women Pool Association (ZWPA) title at a tournament played at Palace Hotel on Saturday.

In the first edition of the competition, Marondera’s Maria Mubata was crowned the winner.
The second instalment saw seasoned Sengwe, who is now based in Harare, conquer all and sundry to emerge as the champion.

Bulawayo’s Petronella “Queen Petty” Sibanda won the top prize in the third edition of the monthly event before Sengwe, who is fondly known as Killer C, summoned all her cue stick skills to reclaim her crown.

“It really feels good to be a winner for the second time. I’m happy that I have maintained my good form which has come through lots of practice,” said Sengwe.
ZWPA chairperson Priscilla “Vari” Chisoro said they had a successful tournament.
