ELECTION fever and jostling for positions is reigning supreme in the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) ahead of the organisation’s national elective congress to be held in Victoria Falls between June 18 and 21.

NASH’ acting president Mr Arthur Maphosa, who is also head of Gwanda High School, said they had started receiving nominations for different portfolios across the 10 provinces.

He said the educational body is expected to elect a president, deputy president, national treasurer, secretary general and vice secretary at the congress.

“Only substantive and acting school heads are eligible to contest the election,” he said.

“The deadline for nomination of candidates by provinces is May 17, 2019. We will not tolerate vote-buying.

“We are yet to get a full list of those interested in the top five posts. We are still receiving nominations from the provinces, which are only open to our members.”

The organisation’s constitution allows members to serve in the national executive for not more than two terms, with each term lasting two years.

Mr Maphosa, who is one of the candidates vying for the top posts, said he was confident of getting enough votes to lead the association.

He took over as acting president from Mr Johnson Madhuku, who is now a legislator.
