The Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Cde Ezra Chadzamira has challenged big corporates in the area to consider buying some of their raw materials from local firms and bring small entrepreneurs into their supply chain.
He said Government has already started rolling out the devolution concept to boost sustainable economic initiatives from grassroots level countrywide.
Addressing stakeholders at a business meeting held at Jerera Growth Point last week, Cde Chadzamira said a number of small businesses across Masvingo province were struggling, hence the need for established entities to promote them through involving them in their value chain.
“You will note that Zaka has got potential to expand and grow based on the availability of natural resources here,” he said. “These include water for irrigation development from big dams like Manjerenje, Bangala, Siya and Mabvute among others.
“There are also mining opportunities here as well as human capital. However, a number of small businesses will continue to suffer if they go alone without promotion from big corporates.”
Speaking during the same gathering, Zaka Central Member of Parliament Cde Davison Svuure said it was of paramount importance to capacitate indigenous and small businesses through policy support.
“The devolution of power concept is expected to facilitate the growth of small entities into bigger corporates and steer economic growth at local level,” he said.
