This comes at a time when the hotel has just been awarded a service excellence certificate by TripAdvisor for the third time, signalling its continued excellent hospitality service.
African Sun head of sales and marketing Mrs Alana Chinhara said the group would spend at least US$1,2 million on the refurbishment which involves furnishing of the rooms and would be completed before the UNWTO General Assembly in August this year.
Zimbabwe and Zambia will co-host the 20th session of the organisation’s general assembly.
This is the second time that the UNWTO General Assembly is being hosted in Africa. Senegal staged the first.
The UNWTO General Assembly brings together high-profile delegates from the 170 countries of the world tourism family, among them government ministers and the two presidents of the hosting countries, President Mugabe and Mr Michael Sata.
Commenting on the award, Mrs Chinhara said: “We are excited about the award and it is a good endorsement ahead of the UNWTO General Assembly. It all goes to confirm that, not only Elephant Hills, but all hotels under the African Sun group are committed towards delivering excellent service.”
