Silobela villagers in Kwekwe district are living in fear of elephants, believed to have strayed from the nearby Debshaan conservancy, that are destroying their homes and crops.
Member of Parliament for Silobela Cde Mthokozisa Manoki Mpofu said the situation was volatile.
“It’s a volatile situation in Silobela, people are living in fear of the elephants that are wreaking havoc in the area,” he said.
“The other challenge is that these elephants are also destroying crops and you know there is already drought in the area and the elephants are destroying what is left.”
Cde Manoki said stray zebras were also destroying crops in the area.
Cde Manoki said they have reported the stray wild animals to the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.
“They are, however, yet to deal with the problem as the elephants are still seen roaming around the villages,” he said.
