THE Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has intensified its Plastic Free July campaign, calling on Zimbabweans to reduce plastic pollution by embracing reusable shopping bags and adopting more environmentally sustainable habits.
As part of the awareness drive, EMA is challenging citizens to consider the environmental consequences of their everyday choices, posing the question: “What future are you choosing with every plastic bag you pick up today?”
The agency is promoting reusable shopping bags as a practical solution to curbing plastic waste, which frequently clogs drainage systems, litters communities, pollutes rivers and poses a serious threat to wildlife and ecosystems.
Plastic Free July is a global environmental movement that encourages millions of people around the world to reduce their dependence on single-use plastics, helping to create cleaner communities and healthier environments.
EMA said lasting environmental protection requires collective action, with every individual playing a role by reducing unnecessary plastic consumption and adopting sustainable alternatives.
The agency has urged households, businesses, schools and community organisations to actively support the campaign by refusing single-use plastic bags wherever possible and opting for reusable options instead.
The initiative forms part of Zimbabwe’s broader environmental conservation efforts aimed at promoting responsible waste management, reducing pollution and safeguarding the country’s natural resources for present and future generations.
